Libraries and folders
How Lightokay works with the folders on your disk instead of a closed catalog.
A library is how Lightokay gathers your photos and videos into one place to browse and filter. Unlike a closed catalog, it works with the folders you already have.
Folders stay where they are
- Files keep their real paths on disk. Lightokay reads them in place.
- Add or remove files in Finder and the change shows up in Lightokay.
- Tidy things up inside Lightokay and the folder structure on disk stays usable in every other app.
Views
- Folder view shows your folder tree on the left, the way it is on disk.
- File view lists everything in the library at once.
- Unsorted, Tags and Color index let you jump to photos that still need work or to a particular tag or color.
- Recently used brings back what you were just working on.
How to organize
Use folders for where files live and tags for what they are. A structure that matches how you work makes filtering more useful later, for example:
- Client / project / session
- Shoot date / camera
- Use: cover, poster, short video, reference
